9/ Mulan

The Ballad of Mulan regales the journey of a daughter who takes up the warrior's mantle in place of her ailing conscripted father – she victoriously returns home for the family life and in doing so, surprises her fellow soldiers of a dozen years with her identity.

The Ballad of Mulan ends with:

“Grab a rabbit by its ears;
The females squint and the males would kick;
While they run loose side-by-side;
How could one tell which is which?”

We are often biased by the notion of identity and our personal experiences with it – by nature, unless otherwise consciously discerning, we tend to judge a group by the actions of an individual. Whether positive or negative, subconscioulsy or intentioned, we also colour the ideas and opinions of others through this lens.

As often seen in innovative, startup and creative spaces, a good idea can come from anywhere. Likewise, a surprising insight generally surfaces from outside a tribe where it is bound by its cultural norms and etiquette, or within a tribe under the guise of anonymity.

Introducing 'Incognito'

In this release, Mindhive now grants Premium discussion hosts the option of allowing their participants to contribute with revealing their identity – this applies to posting topics and comments.

Incognito will see value particularly in surfacing honest feedback from within organisations or community groups where it is more important to find out what participants think rather than who said what.

Set up
For discussions where a Premium host allows, topics and comments can be made without revealing your identity.

Posting
When posting a topic or making a comment, the participant can make the choice of whether their contributions are public or incognito.

Transparency
A message is shown when the number of discussion participants is under ten. As each discussion displays a public list of all its participants, this information will help early commenters assess how likely others can guess their identity.

What is Mindhive?

Mindhive is that space to explore problems that don't have an easy answer, or indeed, have many answers. We are all familiar with forums, but where Mindhive differs is in the next steps where the collected thoughts are distilled, considered and voted on to produce the backbone of a discussion report.

Mindhive is used in research, government and consultancies to canvas a wide spectrum of voices to surface sentiment, insight, and the unexpected.
